Happy Birthday Mika!
Yesterday I celebrated my niece Mikaella's birthday. Not from behind a screen. Not squeezing it in between meetings. Not half-present while my mind ran through tomorrow's to-do list.
I was there. Fully. Completely. Present.
And here's what makes this different: this is becoming more of the norm, sharing meaningful moments together with my family.
The first time I didn't have to choose between the mission and the people I love. I proved to myself and them, that you can build something meaningful without sacrificing the moments that actually matter.
Here's the truth that most of us forget: The people we love won't remember our excuses. They won't remember how busy we were or how important that call was. They'll remember whether we showed up.
Mikaella may remember now that I was there. That I chose her. That on her day, she mattered more than anything else competing for my attention.
These are the moments and leadership that compounds. Not the kind that shows up on a resume. The kind that shows up in the eyes of the people who love you when they realize you meant it.
Blessed doesn't even cover it. Grateful feels too small. But happy? Yeah. That's the word.
Happy I chose presence over productivity. Happy I chose memory over momentum. Happy I chose Mikaella. Happy my family and I got to build this memory together.
What are you choosing today?
