Soul Agreements

I’ve just returned from a rejuvenating trip to southern Italy 🇭🇺, spent in the company of close friends—those rare individuals who not only bring joy, but also challenge us to reflect, evolve, and grow. The experience left me deeply grateful and contemplative.

It brought to mind a concept from Jeff Olson’s The Slight Edge:

“We become the average of the five people we spend the most time with.”

This idea continues to resonate, especially after spending time with people who have consistently expanded my perspective and supported my growth.

Additionally, I revisited a powerful message from Caroline Myss in her book The Sacred Contracts. She proposes that the people we meet are not random; rather, they are aligned with our journey—to support the learning of individual and shared life lessons. This framework offers a profound lens through which to view both personal and professional relationships.

On my way back, I came across a short video that added another layer to this reflection. While the video explores the idea that we “choose” our mother to support our soul’s evolution, it inspired a broader question:

Could this same principle apply to the five closest people in our lives today?

For those who don’t speak Spanish, here’s a brief summary of the video’s message:

“We choose our mother for her soul, her story, her wounds, and her light—to learn and grow together.

To explore the soul agreement, you add your birth date to your mother’s, reducing it to a single digit. Each number represents a shared lesson:

1️⃣ Open a new path together

2️⃣ Heal generational relationships

3️⃣ Restore joy where there was sorrow

4️⃣ Offer mutual support across lifetimes

5️⃣ Accelerate growth and freedom

6️⃣ Build community

7️⃣ Awaken spiritually together

8️⃣ Release collective memories

9️⃣ Resolve karmic and unfinished stories”

In my case, the numbers are 5 (with my mother) and 9 individually. Both align closely with themes I’ve been exploring personally and professionally.

I’m curious—what are your numbers? Does this perspective resonate with you?

And more importantly: Who are the five people shaping your life today—and how are they influencing your path?
