What if the thing you’ve been working hardest to give is the thing you’ve never learned to receive?

I’ve been sitting with this question lately.

We all grow up learning certain languages.

For some of us, it was sacrifice.

For others, hard work.

Expectation. Responsibility. Achievement.

These languages shape us. They help us succeed. They become part of who we are.

And then, without realizing it, we bring them into the workplace.

We lead through them.

We build cultures around them.

We sometimes even mistake them for high performance.

But there is another language I’ve been learning: ✨ Presence ✨

Presence is not just a skill. It is a language.

It is truly seeing someone without immediately trying to fix, direct, protect, or improve them.

Listening without preparing the answer.

Creating space without needing to fill it.

Trusting without controlling the outcome.

And perhaps one of the hardest parts: allowing ourselves to receive the same presence we work so hard to give others.

Many of us were loved in the language our families knew best.

And as leaders, we have the opportunity to expand our vocabulary.

Because leadership is not only about what we accomplish.

It is also about how people experience themselves in our presence.

Do they feel heard?

Trusted?

Challenged?

Safe enough to speak honestly?

Inspired to become more?

The language we lead in becomes part of the culture we create.

So I’ve been asking myself.
